The Perfect Guy

After having seem what I think is my perfect man, I thought I'd lay it out for my avid blog readers.

He can't be a giant. I'm being realistic here, I am only like 5 ft 3 or something so I don't want somebody I can't reach.

He has to be a nerd. I couldn't cope with a boyfriend who judged me for my "Omg, I'm gonna play Pokemon red and complete it in a month!" outbursts. And if he were too jock-like then I don't think we'd have too much to talk about. I mean I get sports but I don't really care about them.

He has to appreciate good food. I don't mean he often eats cavier and washes it down with a 50 year old bottle of whisky. I mean he should like to eat. This sounds like a strange request but I need someone who eats more than I do and, truth be told, I eat alot. So he has that to contend with.

And lastly he should have a killer smile. One that even if I'm mad at him, it still doesn't fail to soften me.

Despite all of these overly specific qualifications, at the end of the day he only has to do one thing- like me for everything I am. For every little weird/impulsive/OCD thing I do. Now is that really too much to ask? ;) x

Short Movie Reviews

Inspired by my beloved twitter, I have decided to review some of the films I have seen recently in only 160 charachters.

Kiss-ass- Brilliant modern day superhero story with awesome fight scenes, interesting characters, not so typical plot & future superstar Chloe Moretz.

Dear John- Typical rom-com but few plot points- waiting for something to happen.Little chemistry, only between John & father. Watch 'The Notebook.'

How to train your dragon- A film for any age- funny and clever. Excellent voice cast and involving storyline. Happy ending :)

Cemetery Junction- British film at it's best. An optimistic look at British society in the 70's. Hilarious and sweet. Best scenes = Gervais with mother <3

Shutter Island - Absolute mind fuck. Well worth staying with till the end. As usual, a brilliant performance by Leo Dicaprio. Pychological thriller done well

Doppelgänger

It's a sunny Sunday morning. So what did I decide to do? Discover which celebrity I most looked like.

I tried a couple of old Dailybooth pictures. First I got Carla from 'Scrubs' which I can kinda see in the eyes...

Then I got Jordan Brewster from 'Fast and Furious' which I think was good in terms of my smile.

Then Halle Berry. I wish.

And lastly Ashley Tisdale who was actually my most consistant match because she came up 3rd of 4th on the other pictures.

What do you think?

Try it yourself and http://celebrity.myheritage.com and post your doppelganger :D x

The First Election Debate

I am trying my hardest to try and cast my vote as best I can, so I am trying to read and watch as much about the three parties as I can. So I started with this debate.

The debate begins somewhat like a gameshow and standing there are the three party leaders, Gordon Brown of the labour party, David Cameron of the Conservative party and Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrats.

Q1. Immingration

Brown is adament that immigration is already falling

Cameron wants to decrease it, add more police on borders

Clegg wants to add regionalism and use border controls similar to Canada.

To be honest, adding more police to a border just makes us seem more violent. I agree with Clegg- regionalism seems to have worked elsewhere.

...........................................................................................

Q2. Law and Order

Cameron begins by slating Brown and says the system doesn't work in regards to the law. Police out on the streets. Addiction on drugs causes crimes- need to confront drug takers. Could save money within police (money put on cars) Brown caused the biggest recession ever.

Clegg Need more police on our streets. Slates I.D card- for the same price could add 3000 police on streets. Young offenders- stop them becoming harderned criminals. Prisons reproduce crime - 9/10 reoffend. Have young offenders apolagize. 4000 short sentences- learn more in prison. No figures put on manifesto (Brown and Cameron)

Brown- official crime figures show it is falling. Effective policing on streets. Parents need to accept responsibility of children. Can take injunctions againt police. Spending on police would arise. Scheme at Reading prison = training for jobs.

Again I agreed with Clegg on this one because I do think that young offenders need to be tackled early. However, it can't be overlooked that Brown has implimented something of this already in Reading prison.

........................................................................................

Q3. MP's expenses.

Clegg MP's haven't fully paid for their discrepancies. No Liberal Democrat did. Put forward a law that allowed citizens to vote out their MP- Labour and Conservative voted no. Now they are saying what he has already put forward.

Brown Shocked and sickened. Wants to introduce right of recall to citizens, right to petition in parliment and to reform the house of commons/house of lords- rather than heriditary. (Trying to get Cleggs support and undermine Cameron.) Cut House of Lords by 50 percent. Going to put it to a reforendum.

CameronWants to cut the amount politics costs- better value for money. Defend house of commons reduction 10 percent. (Cameron is smug and attacks Cleggs argument that Lib Dems weren't involved in scandal) When an MP breaks rules need to be able to get rid of MP. (All agreed?)

I do think it is ridiculous that Brown and Cameron are now asking for a law which Liberal Democrats had already proposed. I very much agreed with Brown's idea to completly shake up the House of Commons and to make the House of Lords cut by 50% and to be voted in.

............................................................................................

Q4. Education

Brown already improving. Education needs to be till 18. Young people need to be able to battle with rest of the world. Need to insist on high standards.Allowing federations to overthrown underperforming schools. Can't cut budgets- would cut numbers of teachers and teaching assistants. (Attacks Cameron says he is going to cut it greatly.)

Cameron excite people about learning. Too beaurecratic. Need as much money in schools as possible. Not change the exam process. Need good dicipline. Head teachers shudnt be overruled by appeal panels. 3 million pounds doing up building- less wastage (mentions being a parent repeatidly) (Attack at Brown putting up national insurance which effectivly takes money from every school.)

Clegg 600 pages of national curriculam - Sweden only has 16. Needs an education freedom act- stop micro managing. Smaller class sizes additional resources - 20 children in primary and 16 in secondary schools. "More they attack each other, more they sound exactly the same" More freedom for teachers and smaller class sizes. Need to save money from elsewhere to help fund.

I do agree that we need a national curriculam, just to know that everybody is getting the same level. But 600 pages seems a bit excessive. In that sense, I see Cleggs ideas here- I know that in sixth form having much smaller classes was a massive help because it meant we got more support. Brown and Cameron seemed to disregard the question and focus mainly on attacking each other.

..............................................................................................

Q5. Budget

Cameron stop jobs tax- 100 leading businessmen say it is a threat to recovery. Doesn't believe that if they cut waste this year it will endanger economy. Economy wouldn't collapse. (Attacks Cleggs tax cut) (Attacks Brown- waste money now and make money later.) Mentions again the bussinessmen. (Again attacks Brown)

Clegg specified on manifesto their figures for helping the deficit. Constantly argue about little wastage. Want to be clear with citizens. Impose a tax on Banks. Should put people before politics- we get Chancellors/Bank of england all become straight with people about extent of deficit.

Brown Can't afford to take money out of the economy means lost jobs and growth. Don't take 6 billion out. The governement has prevented unemployment from raising. (Attacks Cameron- not support money in economy- take a risk with the recovery.) Gotta make sure we invest this year so we can grow later.

In this instance, I agree with Brown. I don't think we can just take money out to pay off the debts because I do feel the economy would suffer. But I would also like details of how he proposes to do it. Nick Clegg, for that reason, stood out because when prompted, he offered specific ways in which he would do things.

............................................................................................

Q6. Military

Clegg agrees are underpaid. Need to change priorities. Paid less than firefighter or police. Kind of equiptment we supply. Rollers aren't used by UK but are America. Agrees with Cameron needs a review. If hold that review, need to rule out Tridant- important? Shouldn't spend it on a cold war missile system- need to spend money on other parts.

Brown increased spending on equiptment in the last couple of years. I would not send troops into battle until I was sure they were equipt. Met every requirement asked for. Why in afganistan? Threat. How get troops home? Need to build up their army and police. Need to increase money and support when home. Responded to change in tactics. Tridant- If people respond by all holding nuclear weapons, we need to hold them.

Cameron don't do enough for them. Need to invest in TA. Review of equiptment and army. Tridant- always have the ultimate protection. (Attacks Brown- didn't have enough helicopters)

Both Clegg and Cameron put forward the idea of a review which I think would be brilliant. Consering one has been done since 9/11 or any of the following miliarty actions, I think it should be considered what has changed. To be honest, I feel this should have already been done.
..............................................................................................

Q7. Healthcare

Brown home helps - less people in nursing homes. Give people personal guarentees- Cancer specialist, diagnostic specialist, doctor in evenings and weekends and Operation in 18 months. Have more nurses and doctors- the situation has advanced since 1997. Ensure finance is there. (Attacks Cameron- no support for education or other sectors)

Cameron mentions NHS and how helped his son. NHS budget should grow year on year. Managers increasing more than nurses. Need a faster choice driven system.

Clegg how protect the NHS that we rely on. Priorities are wrong- 5000 more management and yet still understaffed. Wasting money on beauraucrats. (Attacks Cameron can cut the deficit/tax breaks and provide huge lashings to the public services.) Strategic moves in management- more front line people. Asked how he could afford- answers.

Brown stood out for me on this one. All the comments he made I feel were correct and given the situation the healthcare was in years ago, I think thats one thing his government has successfully managed to improve.

.............................................................................................

Q8. Elderly

Cameron guarentee won't have to pay for residential care.

Clegg politicians shud set aside ideas and work together. Use money to respite care to the carers at least a week

Brown
shudnt have to decide between home and care.

Nobody was really saying anything different in this one.

..............................................................................................

Overall, I became annoyed with the debate and how much they seemed to bicker between each other. Brown constantly made comments about how everything was already in place i.e. crime rates already falling. It was easy to see why people found Clegg to have come out on top, because he did the intelligent thing and didn't get involved with the bickering. You'll notice I never agreed with Cameron. Mainly because I pretty much know I'm not voting Conservative. My step dad does- end of story.

Politics

I am trying, by watching things like 'Question Time' and what not, to decide who to vote for. But I will tell you, I don't think I'm closer to figuring it out.

I get that they have three major parties; Labour led by Gordon Brown, Conservative led by David Cameron and Liberal democrats led by Nick Clegg. I have tried hard to actually figure out what each of the parties are saying they are going to do but it's all so confused. Instead of telling us what they could do for us as a government, each party just seems to spend most of it's time telling us why we shouldn't elect the other parties. It means that I have a massive list of reasons why NOT to vote for each one but few reasons as to why I SHOULD vote for any of them.

This makes me not want to bother voting at all.

I know who I definatly WONT be voting for and thats the BNP or the less up front racist UKIP. My stepfather told me he was voting for UKIP and to be honest, that explains everything about him.

Why can't we simply have a diagram- political parties along the top and sectors (such as education, employment, foreign policy ect.) along the left and can we be told what it is they want to do. Straight forward. No jiggering or sound biting, just facts about what they want to do if they got into government.

Because to be honest, right now, I don't know if I'm even going to bother casting my vote in an election which just seems like an insult slinging contest so far.

Pilots

I recently decided that I don't watch enough television already (HAH!) so watched a few pilots of shows I'd never seen before.

White Collar

As well as watching the pilot, I watched all 16? episodes of this. Sure, it doesn't have a particularly high standard of writing but it was kinda funny and cute. It doesn't hurt that Caffrey, the lead actor, is kinda hunky :) With a cliffhanger ending, this is one I will continue watching.

Lie to Me

I got the idea of this show- a man who had heightened abilities doing what only he is capable of doing in order to catch bad guys/solve a puzzle. Thinking how much I'd enjoyed the forumla when used in 'House' and 'The Mentalist' I assumed this would be amazing. However, I wasn't drawn in. I don't really know why- perhaps I was expecting the charisma of Patrick Jane or the humour and sarcasm of House. Instead I felt like I got neither from the lead. Who knows, maybe I'll give it a second try.

Fringe

I can definatly see myself being drawn into 'Fringe.' Initially I thought it was perhaps a little too serious but, having been assured it is worth watching, I persisted. And I was nicely suprised. Moving on from the pilot, I began to enjoy the relationships within the show, between Peter and Walter and between Peter and Olivia. I also saw a hint of comedy, something I hope will increase to improve the show even more. I have been told that past episode 10 that it gets much better, so I will persist.

The Deep End

A little less serious that the rest, its kind of a far fetched comedy about new lawyers. I don't know. I did move on past the pilot to see where it was going but didn't feel much faith in it's direction. A bit of a let down.

Melrose Place

After having watched 2 episodes, I feel like this show is for me. It has the sex and deciet of 'Gossip Girl' but with a little less money. Kind of similar to '90210' it looks set to have storylines a little less trvial. Don't get me wrong, I don't it will be about political corruption or anything. But I have '24' or 'Law and Order: SVU' for that :)

.......................................................................................

To sum up, I will continue to follow 'White Collar' and 'Fringe' and the rest are still up in the air

P.S. Potentiol 'Criminal Minds' spin-off with Forest Whitaker. VERY exciting!

Baking: Chocolate Fudge Cake

Recipe:

Ingredients:
175g Self raising flour
2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Tsp Bicarbonate soda
150g Caster sugar
2 Eggs Beaten
150 ml (1/4 pint) Sunflower oil
150 ml (1/4 pint) Semi skimmed milk
2 Tbsp Golden syrup

For the Coating and filling

75g Unsalted butter
175g Icing Sugar
3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
Drop of Milk

What to do:
1.Pre-heat oven to 180ºC/350F/Gas Mark 4. Grease and line two 18cm (7 inch) sandwich tins.
2.Sieve the flour, cocoa and Bicarbonate of Soda into a bowl. Add the sugar and mix well.
3.Make a well in the centre and add the syrup, eggs, oil and milk. Beat well with electric whisk until smooth.
4.Spoon the mixture into the two tins and bake for 25 - 30 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Remove from oven, leave to cool before turning out onto a cooling rack.
5.To make your butter icing, place the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Gradually sift and beat in the icing sugar and cocoa powder then add enough milk to make the icing fluffy and spreadable.
6.If the cake has risen a little to high then use a serrated knife to even off the top, now sandwich the two cakes together with the butter icing and cover the sides and the top of the cake with more butter icing.

..................................................................................

Results

So, the cake looked pretty awesome. Unfortunatly though, I used an 8 inch tin instead of a 7 inch one, which made the sponge quite thin. I blame this on the lack of moisture in the sponge. The buttercream icing, however, was lovely!

If I try it again, I think I will use a much smaller tin :D (and try and eat it a bit sooner...)
