Summer Time!

So, I know what you guys are thinking- "Where the HELL have you been?" And the answer would very much be working. All day, 6 days a week and, some weeks, 52 hours. Due to this frightfull development I didn't feel I should inflict a painfully boring blog on you very often because I would have absolutly nothing to write. "Why are you here now?" I hear you cry. I thought i'd sum up my summer in one blog. So here we are.

The Nights out

There hasn't been nearly as many as I would like and this will probably mean Septemeber I'm going to go crazy back in Cardiff. But there was Reflex with Emma, Faye, Mel & Christopher which was alot of fun.

And then there was Becky's Birthday night out in Dogma. I's never been before but I love the film so I thought I'd give it a try. It was pretty awesome, even if it did leave Sophie, Emily and myself last on the dancefloor dancing like lunatics to ward off the surrounding boys.

Lastly is Mels Birthday at Walkabout, a place I hadn't been since last Birthday which was very weird! I loved getting her in for free and doing Jagerbombs with Emma at the bar. I didn't love so much the price of drinks on a Saturday night but it was well worth it for the music and convincing the DJ to play OutKast 'Hey ya' for Mel.

The People

This summer in some ways has been a large eye opener for who my real friends are- they are the people at the same maturity level as me. In some ways this summer has rekindled friendships, such as with Caz. In some ways it has ended friendships as well. Which I'm sad about but I guess it happens. We all grow apart. I still have Louise as a friend- I was best friends with her in year 2 and today we are going Birthday dress shopping. I love that she will be somebody at my wedding who can say she has known we almost all my life and ISN'T related to me.

I haven't gotten to see the girls as often as I would like but I know we have no problems there. When we do get together we have so much fun- we all just slip back into the routine of being friends like we'll never forget it, no matter what university we all go to.

I have missed alot of my uni friends though. In alot of ways it's easier at university because there are less commitments and so we can be more childish whereas at home I have to work. All. The. Time. Still, even some of them are coming all the way to the mean streets of Bracknell to celebrate my birthday with me which I absolutly ADORE <3

The Family

So, I did kind of tell my brother Christopher that I don't belong here and in alot of ways that is true. Apart from them, this Summer has made me think I don't have alot keeping me here. Everybody has links everywhere else and I think I'm going to need to do that when I finish uni. But still, I bloody love my family. I love my late night pointless life chats with Christopher, mine and Andrews 'White Collar'/ IMDB link-Johney-Depp-to-Penn-Badgely-in-5-people game. I even like my arguments with Debs cause it feels like we're sisters- we are bickering one minute and the next indulging in some Ice cream and 'Americas next top model.' And Emma is possibly one of the nicest people I have ever met. I love that she has gotten me a birthday present that is so heavy it hurts her arms to carry.

The Films

I haven't seen nearly as many as I would have liked this summer but I did manage to see the big ones. I'm gonna do the usual 160 character reviews:

Inception: Fantastic cast. Brilliant storyline. Wonderfully irritating ending. Made me think and cry- rarely both happens in 1 film. Film of the year.

Toy Story 3: Not the best of the 3 but still adorable. Loved the scary baby/monkey. Yes, I wept a bit at the ending. Spanish Buzz/sausage potato head=LOL

I don't have much more of the Summer to go but expect another blog next week about my Birthday which, just FYI, is in 3 DAYSS! xoxo

Best T.V guest stars.

Friends

Friends had alot of guest stars over it's 10 years so instead of just choosing one, I managed to whittle it down to three.

3. Bruce Willis.

When Ross was dating one of this college students, Elizabeth, he naturally has to meet her father who turns out to be the one and only Bruce Willis. Stoney faced at first, he developed into an emotionally unstable man who likes to dance when alone. This following scene is particularly good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1aZ2E8sdKA

2. Christina Applegate & Reese Witherspoon

Coming in second equally are Rachel's sisters who were both brilliant- Reese Witherspoon as Jill- the manipulative sister who tries to get Ross to sleep with her and Christina Applegate as Amy who fails at having any amount of tact.

1. Brad Pitt

So I am as sad as the next person that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt broke up, but that still doesn't take away from how HILARIOUS he was in this episode. He plays Will Colbert, a high school friend of Ross' and one of the founders of the I hate Rachel club. Brilliant.

Honorable mention on this list includes Paul Rudd. I guess he counts as a guest star but because he was in so many episodes I felt it was cheating. Still, played a brilliant charachter

Short Movie Reviews [Take 3]

Sex and the City 2: Made the 4 women into characterchures. Still had very funny moments, especially with Charlotte and Miranda. Lacked a definitive plot.

The Losers: Best use of 'Don't stop Believin' ever! Alot of slow motion but also great fight scenes. Witty/funny one liners. Chris Evans = Brilliant.

Robin Hood: Crowe pretty much playing Maximus again but he does it well. Good supporting cast in Alan, John, Tuck & Will. Blanchet =bland. Hello sequel!

Killers: I could easily stare at Ashton Kutchers body all day. Lacked any proper storyline and felt like it finished too soon. Still, lots of laughs.

Nineteen and free?

I'm a little bit ill so have resorted to watching old 'Sex and the City' episodes and one episode in particular had me thinking. It's called 'They shoot single people, don't they?' and it's all about the four women faking relationships for fear of being alone because it terrifies them.

I'm nineteen and I have never had a relationship. There have been guys but not many and none I would consider to have been my boyfriend. So it begs the question, what if I will be alone forever? Okay, it might seem like I'm being over-dramatic because I am only nineteen, but what if the life aspirations I am just assume will happen, don't come true? Because being alone does frighten the hell out of me because then what if I can't have the big family and go see the school plays and the graduations or have a fabulous wedding.

Then I get to thinking about why I am single and it's because being in a relationship also scares the hell out of me. I am too independent, I find it difficult to be vulnerable or rely on anybody else so to let myself do that and then be disappointed, I'd rather not bother.

So where does this leave me? In a perpetual state of limbo- so afraid of being with someone and yet scared to death of being the single at a couples party.

….Woah, I sound like I'm about 35.

Diary entry from 2003

[AN EXTRACT FROM A DIARY I KEPT WHEN I WAS 13. SUFFICE TO SAY I HAVEN'T CHANGED MUCH... ]

Monday 2nd August

9.00pm

Today I am feeling new levels of lowness. I feel as though, it being the summer holidays, I should be doing something more productive but I just end up waking up late and watching TV. Though I do have to say day TV is incredibly boring! I mean, I woke up this morning to find countdown on. Countdown! I mean honestly if they know the British public but at all, they’d know bloody well that the majority is exactly like me. Couch potatoes that do not appreciate Friend’s episodes being taken over by “test cricket” whatever the hell that is. To be honest I think this lowness might have something to do with missing my best friend Helen. She’s gone away for three weeks, and now I really understand how much my life falls apart without her. I mean firstly Adam is being a prick. Well I suppose it’s not so much him but probably his stupid friends who seem to find it hilarious that I actually fancy Adam. Suppose they have a point. I don’t even know why I fancy him. He’s not the first. I liked Jamie for ages then realized he was a prick. I seem to be forming a pattern here. Maybe I should just swear off guys for life and just adopt children. You know become one of those career driven women. I’d get a lot more done.

10pm

In bed thinking about how incredibly sad my life is. Im thirteen and im speaking as though I’ve had a couple of illegitimate children and a divorce. I haven’t had either. I haven’t even had a proper boyfriend. God I suppose im destined to be bitter and twisted for the rest of my life. I keep thinking that I might actually end up lonely forever but then I think wont marriage just be boring? You know waking up to the same face everyday has to shock you back to reality. If I were much older and smoked then I reckon id be dying for a fag right now. Though I don’t suppose ill ever smoke having not had good experiences with it in my past. My dad used to smoke and I’d spend the weekend with him. By the end I’d be wheezing. But its not his fault because I realized that it was just hay fever. Which actually has no relevance. Hmm… no wonder im single.

11.00

Can’t sleep. Usually I watch friends in bed and it soothes me but right now I don’t think a horse pill could knock me out. I just keep going over loads of things in my head again and again. You know, the small things people say that aren’t supposed to offend but do? Well now I keep wondering if I have done that and not meant to. I keep racking my brain to try and think but then realized how am I meant to know? God im so silly, I worry about everything. Im only a teenager and I think I give my self-peer pressure. That’s got to say something. Im just going to lie here all night thinking how to apologize for being so selfish

11.05
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………..

Tuesday 3rd July

11.am

Usual wake up time. I am dreading going down stairs in case countdown is really on and have urges to shoot TV. I make my lunch, having slept through breakfast and go and sit down. Just then my mobile bleeps to say I have a text. I dive at my phone in hope its Adam buts its just Amy saying goodbye since she’s off to Cornwall today. Now I feel even more alone. I put down my sandwich realizing I have lost my appetite, pick out “10 things I hate about you” and go and watch it in my own lovely bed.

12.30am

Why cant lives be something like the movies? Why cant I have some fit Australian bloke after me? Life is so unfair! I ring Amanda to see what she’s up to. She was out last night and I want to see if I missed anything interesting. I haven’t been allowed out on Fridays for a while

Short Movie Reviews [Take 2]

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call- New Orleans: No real storyline but yet kind of fascinating. Nicolas cage acting the best I've ever seen him. Watch out for the dancing soul. Alot of drugs.

Nightmare on Elm Street: Standard teen slasher flick but the first film in a long time to actually scare me. V. jumpy. Interesting back story to Freddie.

Iron Man 2: I love RDJ. More fun than the first one. Loved RDJ dancing in the suit. Hints 2 Thor & Captain America = v.exciting! Wait till after credits.

Date Night: Not as funny as I wanted it to be. Still love Tina Fey. Very watchable but not one to go down in comedy history

Why put off tomorrow what you can do today?

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Dream a if you'll live forever. Dream as if you'll die today.

Laugh as much as you can breathe and love as long as you live.

The most important things in life aren't things.

Never waste a minute of your precious life thinking about people you don't like.

Our attitude towards life determines it's attitude toward us.

Look at life through the windshield, not the rearview mirror.

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first. - Mark Twain

Life is something to do when you can't get to sleep.

I strongly suggest you have a mantra. When my day gets a little bit tough, I read these and at least one of them makes me feel better <3

The Best of...

It was 1am. My brother was attempting to go to sleep but instead of letting him go to bed I distracted him with the following questions. These were the results:

Best Kiss:

The first of Christopher's was the kiss in 'Romeo & Juliet.' He clearly is a hopeless romantic.

The he choose (for television) the kiss between Angel and Buffy at the end of season 2 when she has to run him through with a sword? [Note: I couldn't find a youtube clip of this]

My film choice was a classic of Noah & Aly in 'The Notebook.' Breaks my heart every time! "I wrote you everyday for a year" *cries*

My choice for television is tricky. I had a choice between Logan & Veronica in 'Veronica Mars' or Rachel & Ross. I went for the latter :)

Best Bromance:

Christopher went with Joey & Chandler

I went with House & Wilson- Love when Wilson steals his guitar and "Oh my God, you're sleeping with me!"

Best Cop Partnership:

Christopher went with some guys from 'The Shield' but considering I have never seen it, I didn't know who to search for.

My television couple were Brennan and Booth from 'Bones.' I love that they have really good chemistry but they are also really funny as well.

My favourate film cop partnership was Riggs and Murtaugh from the 'Lethal Weapon' films :) they are AWESOME

Best Pilot:

For this I can't really post youtube videos but I can tell you

Christopher choose 'The Shield' and I choose 'The Mentalist' Check them out

The Perfect Guy

After having seem what I think is my perfect man, I thought I'd lay it out for my avid blog readers.

He can't be a giant. I'm being realistic here, I am only like 5 ft 3 or something so I don't want somebody I can't reach.

He has to be a nerd. I couldn't cope with a boyfriend who judged me for my "Omg, I'm gonna play Pokemon red and complete it in a month!" outbursts. And if he were too jock-like then I don't think we'd have too much to talk about. I mean I get sports but I don't really care about them.

He has to appreciate good food. I don't mean he often eats cavier and washes it down with a 50 year old bottle of whisky. I mean he should like to eat. This sounds like a strange request but I need someone who eats more than I do and, truth be told, I eat alot. So he has that to contend with.

And lastly he should have a killer smile. One that even if I'm mad at him, it still doesn't fail to soften me.

Despite all of these overly specific qualifications, at the end of the day he only has to do one thing- like me for everything I am. For every little weird/impulsive/OCD thing I do. Now is that really too much to ask? ;) x

Short Movie Reviews

Inspired by my beloved twitter, I have decided to review some of the films I have seen recently in only 160 charachters.

Kiss-ass- Brilliant modern day superhero story with awesome fight scenes, interesting characters, not so typical plot & future superstar Chloe Moretz.

Dear John- Typical rom-com but few plot points- waiting for something to happen.Little chemistry, only between John & father. Watch 'The Notebook.'

How to train your dragon- A film for any age- funny and clever. Excellent voice cast and involving storyline. Happy ending :)

Cemetery Junction- British film at it's best. An optimistic look at British society in the 70's. Hilarious and sweet. Best scenes = Gervais with mother <3

Shutter Island - Absolute mind fuck. Well worth staying with till the end. As usual, a brilliant performance by Leo Dicaprio. Pychological thriller done well

Doppelgänger

It's a sunny Sunday morning. So what did I decide to do? Discover which celebrity I most looked like.

I tried a couple of old Dailybooth pictures. First I got Carla from 'Scrubs' which I can kinda see in the eyes...

Then I got Jordan Brewster from 'Fast and Furious' which I think was good in terms of my smile.

Then Halle Berry. I wish.

And lastly Ashley Tisdale who was actually my most consistant match because she came up 3rd of 4th on the other pictures.

What do you think?

Try it yourself and http://celebrity.myheritage.com and post your doppelganger :D x

The First Election Debate

I am trying my hardest to try and cast my vote as best I can, so I am trying to read and watch as much about the three parties as I can. So I started with this debate.

The debate begins somewhat like a gameshow and standing there are the three party leaders, Gordon Brown of the labour party, David Cameron of the Conservative party and Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrats.

Q1. Immingration

Brown is adament that immigration is already falling

Cameron wants to decrease it, add more police on borders

Clegg wants to add regionalism and use border controls similar to Canada.

To be honest, adding more police to a border just makes us seem more violent. I agree with Clegg- regionalism seems to have worked elsewhere.

...........................................................................................

Q2. Law and Order

Cameron begins by slating Brown and says the system doesn't work in regards to the law. Police out on the streets. Addiction on drugs causes crimes- need to confront drug takers. Could save money within police (money put on cars) Brown caused the biggest recession ever.

Clegg Need more police on our streets. Slates I.D card- for the same price could add 3000 police on streets. Young offenders- stop them becoming harderned criminals. Prisons reproduce crime - 9/10 reoffend. Have young offenders apolagize. 4000 short sentences- learn more in prison. No figures put on manifesto (Brown and Cameron)

Brown- official crime figures show it is falling. Effective policing on streets. Parents need to accept responsibility of children. Can take injunctions againt police. Spending on police would arise. Scheme at Reading prison = training for jobs.

Again I agreed with Clegg on this one because I do think that young offenders need to be tackled early. However, it can't be overlooked that Brown has implimented something of this already in Reading prison.

........................................................................................

Q3. MP's expenses.

Clegg MP's haven't fully paid for their discrepancies. No Liberal Democrat did. Put forward a law that allowed citizens to vote out their MP- Labour and Conservative voted no. Now they are saying what he has already put forward.

Brown Shocked and sickened. Wants to introduce right of recall to citizens, right to petition in parliment and to reform the house of commons/house of lords- rather than heriditary. (Trying to get Cleggs support and undermine Cameron.) Cut House of Lords by 50 percent. Going to put it to a reforendum.

CameronWants to cut the amount politics costs- better value for money. Defend house of commons reduction 10 percent. (Cameron is smug and attacks Cleggs argument that Lib Dems weren't involved in scandal) When an MP breaks rules need to be able to get rid of MP. (All agreed?)

I do think it is ridiculous that Brown and Cameron are now asking for a law which Liberal Democrats had already proposed. I very much agreed with Brown's idea to completly shake up the House of Commons and to make the House of Lords cut by 50% and to be voted in.

............................................................................................

Q4. Education

Brown already improving. Education needs to be till 18. Young people need to be able to battle with rest of the world. Need to insist on high standards.Allowing federations to overthrown underperforming schools. Can't cut budgets- would cut numbers of teachers and teaching assistants. (Attacks Cameron says he is going to cut it greatly.)

Cameron excite people about learning. Too beaurecratic. Need as much money in schools as possible. Not change the exam process. Need good dicipline. Head teachers shudnt be overruled by appeal panels. 3 million pounds doing up building- less wastage (mentions being a parent repeatidly) (Attack at Brown putting up national insurance which effectivly takes money from every school.)

Clegg 600 pages of national curriculam - Sweden only has 16. Needs an education freedom act- stop micro managing. Smaller class sizes additional resources - 20 children in primary and 16 in secondary schools. "More they attack each other, more they sound exactly the same" More freedom for teachers and smaller class sizes. Need to save money from elsewhere to help fund.

I do agree that we need a national curriculam, just to know that everybody is getting the same level. But 600 pages seems a bit excessive. In that sense, I see Cleggs ideas here- I know that in sixth form having much smaller classes was a massive help because it meant we got more support. Brown and Cameron seemed to disregard the question and focus mainly on attacking each other.

..............................................................................................

Q5. Budget

Cameron stop jobs tax- 100 leading businessmen say it is a threat to recovery. Doesn't believe that if they cut waste this year it will endanger economy. Economy wouldn't collapse. (Attacks Cleggs tax cut) (Attacks Brown- waste money now and make money later.) Mentions again the bussinessmen. (Again attacks Brown)

Clegg specified on manifesto their figures for helping the deficit. Constantly argue about little wastage. Want to be clear with citizens. Impose a tax on Banks. Should put people before politics- we get Chancellors/Bank of england all become straight with people about extent of deficit.

Brown Can't afford to take money out of the economy means lost jobs and growth. Don't take 6 billion out. The governement has prevented unemployment from raising. (Attacks Cameron- not support money in economy- take a risk with the recovery.) Gotta make sure we invest this year so we can grow later.

In this instance, I agree with Brown. I don't think we can just take money out to pay off the debts because I do feel the economy would suffer. But I would also like details of how he proposes to do it. Nick Clegg, for that reason, stood out because when prompted, he offered specific ways in which he would do things.

............................................................................................

Q6. Military

Clegg agrees are underpaid. Need to change priorities. Paid less than firefighter or police. Kind of equiptment we supply. Rollers aren't used by UK but are America. Agrees with Cameron needs a review. If hold that review, need to rule out Tridant- important? Shouldn't spend it on a cold war missile system- need to spend money on other parts.

Brown increased spending on equiptment in the last couple of years. I would not send troops into battle until I was sure they were equipt. Met every requirement asked for. Why in afganistan? Threat. How get troops home? Need to build up their army and police. Need to increase money and support when home. Responded to change in tactics. Tridant- If people respond by all holding nuclear weapons, we need to hold them.

Cameron don't do enough for them. Need to invest in TA. Review of equiptment and army. Tridant- always have the ultimate protection. (Attacks Brown- didn't have enough helicopters)

Both Clegg and Cameron put forward the idea of a review which I think would be brilliant. Consering one has been done since 9/11 or any of the following miliarty actions, I think it should be considered what has changed. To be honest, I feel this should have already been done.
..............................................................................................

Q7. Healthcare

Brown home helps - less people in nursing homes. Give people personal guarentees- Cancer specialist, diagnostic specialist, doctor in evenings and weekends and Operation in 18 months. Have more nurses and doctors- the situation has advanced since 1997. Ensure finance is there. (Attacks Cameron- no support for education or other sectors)

Cameron mentions NHS and how helped his son. NHS budget should grow year on year. Managers increasing more than nurses. Need a faster choice driven system.

Clegg how protect the NHS that we rely on. Priorities are wrong- 5000 more management and yet still understaffed. Wasting money on beauraucrats. (Attacks Cameron can cut the deficit/tax breaks and provide huge lashings to the public services.) Strategic moves in management- more front line people. Asked how he could afford- answers.

Brown stood out for me on this one. All the comments he made I feel were correct and given the situation the healthcare was in years ago, I think thats one thing his government has successfully managed to improve.

.............................................................................................

Q8. Elderly

Cameron guarentee won't have to pay for residential care.

Clegg politicians shud set aside ideas and work together. Use money to respite care to the carers at least a week

Brown
shudnt have to decide between home and care.

Nobody was really saying anything different in this one.

..............................................................................................

Overall, I became annoyed with the debate and how much they seemed to bicker between each other. Brown constantly made comments about how everything was already in place i.e. crime rates already falling. It was easy to see why people found Clegg to have come out on top, because he did the intelligent thing and didn't get involved with the bickering. You'll notice I never agreed with Cameron. Mainly because I pretty much know I'm not voting Conservative. My step dad does- end of story.

Politics

I am trying, by watching things like 'Question Time' and what not, to decide who to vote for. But I will tell you, I don't think I'm closer to figuring it out.

I get that they have three major parties; Labour led by Gordon Brown, Conservative led by David Cameron and Liberal democrats led by Nick Clegg. I have tried hard to actually figure out what each of the parties are saying they are going to do but it's all so confused. Instead of telling us what they could do for us as a government, each party just seems to spend most of it's time telling us why we shouldn't elect the other parties. It means that I have a massive list of reasons why NOT to vote for each one but few reasons as to why I SHOULD vote for any of them.

This makes me not want to bother voting at all.

I know who I definatly WONT be voting for and thats the BNP or the less up front racist UKIP. My stepfather told me he was voting for UKIP and to be honest, that explains everything about him.

Why can't we simply have a diagram- political parties along the top and sectors (such as education, employment, foreign policy ect.) along the left and can we be told what it is they want to do. Straight forward. No jiggering or sound biting, just facts about what they want to do if they got into government.

Because to be honest, right now, I don't know if I'm even going to bother casting my vote in an election which just seems like an insult slinging contest so far.

Testing, testing, 1 2 3. Blogging from my blackberry. Awesome

Pilots

I recently decided that I don't watch enough television already (HAH!) so watched a few pilots of shows I'd never seen before.

White Collar

As well as watching the pilot, I watched all 16? episodes of this. Sure, it doesn't have a particularly high standard of writing but it was kinda funny and cute. It doesn't hurt that Caffrey, the lead actor, is kinda hunky :) With a cliffhanger ending, this is one I will continue watching.

Lie to Me

I got the idea of this show- a man who had heightened abilities doing what only he is capable of doing in order to catch bad guys/solve a puzzle. Thinking how much I'd enjoyed the forumla when used in 'House' and 'The Mentalist' I assumed this would be amazing. However, I wasn't drawn in. I don't really know why- perhaps I was expecting the charisma of Patrick Jane or the humour and sarcasm of House. Instead I felt like I got neither from the lead. Who knows, maybe I'll give it a second try.

Fringe

I can definatly see myself being drawn into 'Fringe.' Initially I thought it was perhaps a little too serious but, having been assured it is worth watching, I persisted. And I was nicely suprised. Moving on from the pilot, I began to enjoy the relationships within the show, between Peter and Walter and between Peter and Olivia. I also saw a hint of comedy, something I hope will increase to improve the show even more. I have been told that past episode 10 that it gets much better, so I will persist.

The Deep End

A little less serious that the rest, its kind of a far fetched comedy about new lawyers. I don't know. I did move on past the pilot to see where it was going but didn't feel much faith in it's direction. A bit of a let down.

Melrose Place

After having watched 2 episodes, I feel like this show is for me. It has the sex and deciet of 'Gossip Girl' but with a little less money. Kind of similar to '90210' it looks set to have storylines a little less trvial. Don't get me wrong, I don't it will be about political corruption or anything. But I have '24' or 'Law and Order: SVU' for that :)

.......................................................................................

To sum up, I will continue to follow 'White Collar' and 'Fringe' and the rest are still up in the air

P.S. Potentiol 'Criminal Minds' spin-off with Forest Whitaker. VERY exciting!

Baking: Chocolate Fudge Cake

Recipe:

Ingredients:
175g Self raising flour
2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Tsp Bicarbonate soda
150g Caster sugar
2 Eggs Beaten
150 ml (1/4 pint) Sunflower oil
150 ml (1/4 pint) Semi skimmed milk
2 Tbsp Golden syrup

For the Coating and filling

75g Unsalted butter
175g Icing Sugar
3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
Drop of Milk

What to do:
1.Pre-heat oven to 180ºC/350F/Gas Mark 4. Grease and line two 18cm (7 inch) sandwich tins.
2.Sieve the flour, cocoa and Bicarbonate of Soda into a bowl. Add the sugar and mix well.
3.Make a well in the centre and add the syrup, eggs, oil and milk. Beat well with electric whisk until smooth.
4.Spoon the mixture into the two tins and bake for 25 - 30 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Remove from oven, leave to cool before turning out onto a cooling rack.
5.To make your butter icing, place the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Gradually sift and beat in the icing sugar and cocoa powder then add enough milk to make the icing fluffy and spreadable.
6.If the cake has risen a little to high then use a serrated knife to even off the top, now sandwich the two cakes together with the butter icing and cover the sides and the top of the cake with more butter icing.

..................................................................................

Results

So, the cake looked pretty awesome. Unfortunatly though, I used an 8 inch tin instead of a 7 inch one, which made the sponge quite thin. I blame this on the lack of moisture in the sponge. The buttercream icing, however, was lovely!

If I try it again, I think I will use a much smaller tin :D (and try and eat it a bit sooner...)
